Greetings from the Napa Valley! We are delighted to announce the inaugural release of Rocca Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Our estate-grown, hand-crafted wines have already received critical acclaim. We were excited when The Wine Spectator featured us after just our first release of the Rocca Syrah. Our primary careers in medicine and dentistry have proved a circuitous route to the wine industry. While Eric Grigsby continues to practice in Napa, moonlighting as partner, taster and farmer, Mary Rocca has shifted to full-time wine operations. Our journey in the wine industry began in 1999 with the purchase of 21 acres on the corner of Yountville Cross Road and Silverado Trail. Nestled next to the esteemed Stags Leap District, an appellation prized for its history of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, our vineyard lies at the Southeastern corner of the Yountville appellation. Four children, and several wines later, our lives are as rich as the soil we farm. The 2001 vintage is an auspicious debut for our Rocca Family Cabernet Sauvignon. The growing season was ideal, and the critics are already acclaiming 2001 as a vintage for the ages. Renowned winemaker Celia Masyczek has created a beautifully balanced wine. Celia writes, “The Cabernet is very deep and rich-smelling, with black raspberry and cocoa-vanilla notes dominating the aromas. Hints of cinnamon bark and wild anise add subtle notes of complexity. In the mouth, sweet, bright fruit integrates nicely with the deeper toasty oak flavors. The texture is immediately soft, silky and polished, with a full and consistent palate impression that finishes with sweet fruit and a sense of grace, elegance and power.”
