Featured Varietal

Primitivo

Recent "DNA" testing has shown Primitivo to possess the exact same genetic make up as the popular California grape, Zinfandel. Both varieties origins are tracked back to Croatia. And while the grapes may be identical in theory, the wines they produce have distinct differences. Primitivo's home province is Apuglia (sometimes called Puglia), located in the "heel" of Italy's boot. Wines made from Primitivo have notes of plum and spice, like Zinfandel, but because of different growing soils and climate, the fruit character is less jammy, the structure more akin to old world wines, with rustic notes of earth and spice, as well as tamed fruit flavors.

Featured Winery

Michael Pozzan Winery

Michael Pozzan Winery is owned and operated by Michael and Mary Ann Pozzan, both natives of California. Michael was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, but spent his summer months with his grandparents on their 35 acre vineyard estate in Sonoma County. Michael's grandfather purchased the land after WWII and planted Zinfandel grapes, which he sold to local wineries. He always made sure that he retained a portion of the grapes to make his own wine. With roots extending to Piedmont, Italy, Michael's family has been in the wine business since the mid 1800s, and still owns the original property that Michael's great grandfather planted over100 years ago. Michael has benefited greatly from his family's experience and expertise, and has continued the tradition by creating fine wines here in California. Michael Pozzan winery was founded in 1991 and is based in Oakville, California, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The winery currently produces 50,000 cases a year and distributes its wine throughout the United States in selected markets. The wine is sold under three labels, Michael Pozzan, Dante, and Annabella. The Dante Wine Collection was inspired by Michael's travels through the Tuscan countryside and is named after Michael's oldest son, Michael Dante Pozzan. The collection includes a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. They are made in the Italian style with well-balanced fruit and nice acid, which allows the wines to match well with a variety of foods. The Annabella line is a collection of Napa wines that are sourced from premium vineyards through out the valley. They include a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot. These wines represent not only quality, but value as well. Because of the increase in their popularity, the Annabella wines are allocated on a annual basis. The Michael Pozzan Reserve wines, produced from grapes grown in the Napa and Sonoma regions, are of the finest quality and have won numerous medals and awards. The collection includes a Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Suavignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our winery is committed to producing fine wines that represent quality and value. Michael Pozzan wines can be enjoyed with good food, family, friends and all who share the love of wine.
