We at Georgia Wines are often asked "Why do your wines taste so good... What's your secret?" As the first established farm winery in the state of Georgia, we have been making premium award winning wines since 1983. Our "secret" lies in the fact that we strive for maximum flavor content in our winemaking by practicing our own "freeze-fermentation" technique. We FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS on maximum fruitiness in our wines.
In the spring of 1982 our founder, Dr. Maurice S. Rawlings, Sr., bought a serenely beautiful 52 acre tract of land in the foothills of Lookout Mountain in the Northwest corner of Georgia. Looking for a way to make the land productive, he contacted the local Agricultural Extension Service. To his dismay, he discovered that the land was unsuitable for farming, but was thrilled to find that a vineyard would be a preferred alternative. Dr. Rawlings had always held a passion for fine wines. He and his family planted the vineyard and the rest is "history".
With over 100 awards to our credit, we take pride in producing some of the most unique wine on the market. Through our special "freeze fermentation" technique, we are able to capture the fresh flavor of the fruit which is normally lost when wine is fermented at traditional higher temperature levels. Our process produces wine which tastes like eating the fresh, sweet fruit right off the vines!
Come sample our wines and taste the difference for yourself. We offer free wine tasting of all of our wines. We also carry a full line of winemaking supplies, wine accessories, exquisite gift baskets for all occasions, an array of unique gifts and the delectable "The Georgia Gourmet" food products.
