Sumac Ridge Estate Winery

Sumac Ridge Estate Winery Established in 1979 by Harry McWalters ( founder of the BC Wine Institute ) and Lloyd Schmidt. The winery was sold in 2000 to Vincor International. Production runs about 50,000 cases and is a popular winery to visit. Winemaker is Mark Wendenberg. Sumac Ridge Estate Winery was the first Okanagan winery to produce premium sparkling wines, as well as a Port-style wine, from premium vinifera grapes. At the Summerland winery site, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes are grown. Further south, on a 115-acre vineyard in Oliver (in the south Okanagan) grown are such noble red varieties as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, in addition to a number of white varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc.

Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is located on Highway 97 just north of Summerland, British Columbia. By car, travel time from Vancouver is 4.5 hours via the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5 & 97C). From Calgary, via the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1) and Highway 97, travel time is approximately 8 hours. We are 15 minutes north of the Penticton airport and 45 minutes south of the Kelowna airport.

  Cabernet Merlot Private Reserve
This classic blend of Cabernet and Merlot grapes was aged in small oak casks to maturity in our cellar to maturity. This full-bodied red wine is intense in color and possesses a depth of character imparting wonderful berry and cherry flavours.
  Cabernet Sauvignon - Black Sage Vineyard
A wine rich in blackberry flavours and soft tannins, which follow the explosion of black currants and cassis on the nose. Enjoy now with lamb or beef. Aging potential up to 10 years.
  Chardonnay - Cellar Select
This Chardonnay captures the lush richness of the grapes varietal character, hints of apple and toast, with the mellow effect of oak aging. It is round and complex with an elegant finish. Bring on the shellfish!
  Chardonnay -Black Sage Vineyard
A full-bodied wine with a round tropical fruit and apple flavour, mellowed by effects of malolactic fermentation and aged slowly in small French oak casks. Round and complex with a lingering elegant finish.
A blend of muscat grapes, this is a complex, sweet dessert wine. There is a burst of intense muscat in the nose, an explosion of fruit on the palate and a lingering finish unique to this wine. Recommended to be served on its own as a dessert or accompanied by fruits and mild cheeses. Serve well chilled.3087

A lush, spicy nose and full grapefruit flavours followed by a long full finish. This wine has traditionally been one of Sumac Ridge Estate Winery’s finest offerings and a consistent award winner.A match for hot spicy foods and great with cheese as well.
  Gewurztraminer Icewine
This special dessert wine has rich aromas of ripe pears and peaches and full-bodied flavours of dried apricots, apples honey and papaya. Try this wine with or as dessert.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine is a perfect balance of flavours, fragrance, and finish.Outstanding with red meats such as beef, lamb and game. Aging potential 5 to 10 years.
  Merlot - Black Sage Vineyard
This well-balanced unfiltered wine is intense in colour and has depth of character imparting wonderful berry flavours. A great match for all red meats and grilled foods.
  Merlot -Private Reserve
Our grapes are grown only in the southern most vineyards in the Okanagan Valley. This wine was aged in small oak barrels to mellow for at least one year. The wine displays great berry aromas in the nose, intense fruit flavours on the palate and has a long lingering finish. Great with steaks, chops and flavourful pastas.
Pinnacle is the culmination of our desire to produce the highest quality red wine ever crafted in Canada. Pinnacle is produced from the highest quality unfined, unfiltered, free-run juice of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes from our Black Sage Vineyard. Pinnacle has been aged for a full 25 months in small oak casks.
  Pinot Blanc - Black Sage Vineyard
This private reserve wine is full, round, luscious and fruity with a smooth finish of vanilla overtones. A majority of this wine has been barrel-fermented and aged in specially selected small french oak casks.
  Pinot Blanc - Cellar Select
Pinot Blanc is a dry white wine of great finesse, fresh, crisp fruit with undertones of oak. This elegant wine is a great match with salmon and other seafood dishes.
  Pinot Blanc Icewine
This wine is liquid gold. Its’ total concentration of fruit is caused by the freezing of the grapes on the vine. The 2004 Pinot Blanc Icewine explodes on the palate, filling the mouth with a great array of flavours ranging from ripe pear to a reminder of deep-dish apple pie complete with cinnamon.
  PIPE- Vintage Series
Partial ferment in stainless and fortification aged in old French and American casks for 2 years. Prune, plum, rich warm velvet texture. Wonderful with blue cheeses, such as stilton, almonds, walnuts, chocolate and raspberries.
  Rose - Private Reserve
This wine is a unique blend of red and white grape varieties producing a delightful blush wine. Just delicious! A core of cherry with layers of currants, strawberries and peaches. The finish echoes of fruit and flavour as it lingers. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to veal, ham, and pork and it stands on its own as a summer sipper. Serve chilled.
  Sauvignon Blanc - Black Sage Vineyard

  Steller's Jay Brut
Steller’s Jay is produced using traditional Champagne grape varieties. It has been aged entirage in our cellars for over three years and is hand riddled and disgorged using the classical method. It is a ripe, focused wine with rich, well-rounded toast and spicy aromas and with a lean, almost creamy texture.
  Unoaked Chardonnay
This wine exhibits crisp, fresh lemony acidity followed by a mouth-filling extract of apple and a long lingering finish. Hints of pineapple and citrus with rose petals on the nose. This fruit forward fresh wine would be great paired with seafood, especially oysters. 3087
  White Meritage
A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, this wine is typical of the style of the great white wines of Bordeaux. A crisp, clean wine imparting hints of gooseberry, balanced with a light vanilla oak finish. Excellent with salmon, trout and other seafood.
