Francesco

Francesco Wine Details
Price: $18.00 per bottle

Description: FRANCESCO, is produced from our exceptional Cabernet Franc grapes picked at the peak of their maturity. Our high elevation and proximity to the Blue Ridge rewards us with hot days and very cool nights. As a result, grapes retain their acidity while maturing their tannins. The wine is full of ripe cherry and raspberry flavors with a hint of oak and a pronounced smoky nose. Beginning with the 2002 vintage, we will have two distinct bottlings of this wine. The first, "Ballerina" named after the divided canopy growth conditions, routinely produces high yields per vine with rich and intense fruit. In contrast our newer, high density plantings which produce only a third as much crop per vine, "VSP" emphasizes structure and definition seldom found in the grape outside of St. Emilion.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Franc:
Cabernet Franc is an accessible, spicy, herbal, dark blue grape variety that is often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Sometimes the French refer to Cabernets, which could mean either of the two grapes. Its typical aromas include an herbaceous and pronounced peppery nose, even in ripe fruit, and something eerily like tobacco. The Cabernet Franc ripens at an earlier stage, which gives it reason to exist in the Bordeaux area. In the Loire, where we find it a lot, it gives a clear red fresh and fruity wine.
