Suncè Winery

Suncè Winery Suncé Winery, meaning "sun" in Croatian, is located on one of the oldest roads in Sonoma County. Where olive trees once dominated the landscape, old headpruned vines now quietly assert their beauty. Nestled in this serene environment, Sunce Winery provides a tranquil, romantic, yet down-to-earth atmosphere. The winery, formerly known as One World Winery, was established in 1990. We (proprietors Frane and Janae Franicevic) purchased this new property, which we now call home, during Christmas 1998. We frequently greet visitors in the tasting room, where guests receive a complimentary tasting of four white and five red wines. Quality is preferred over quantity; each release is limited, sometimes to 200 cases or less.

  Baker Vineyard RRV Chardonnay
We would like to recognize Jeff Pierce for his care of this three-acre old vine Chardonnay vineyard nestled on Olivet Road in the heart of Russian River Valley. True to this vineyard's roots, this artisan vintage evokes Old World Chardonnay with opulant tropical fruit, peach, white pepper, and a racy floral spice.
  Baker Vineyard RRV Old Vines Zinfandel
We would like to recognize Jeff Pierce for his care of this historical family-owned Zin vineyard. 1 acre in size, the 2003 vintage yielded only 5 barrels of wine. A Classic Russian River Valley Zinfandel recalling homemade late-summer berry jam. Vibrantly spicy, this wine has an incredibly plush mouth feel and clean pepper-laced finish.
  D.H. Pheasant Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a full-bodied, full-flavored Cab with forward blackberry fruit, good tannins and dark cinnamon chocolate spices. Try this with steak, Carpaccio, beef roast, fajitas or just by itself.
  Field Of Dreams Contra Costa County Syrah
This is a rich, full bodied wine with flavors of cassis and blueberries, laced with notes of cloves and pepper. Marked cocoa and rich esspresso bean character round out the finish.
  Field of Dreams Syrah
We would like to recognize Dale and Kamie Giessman for their enduring patience developing this beautiful fruit. It makes a rich, full bodied wine with flavors of cassis and blueberries, laced with notes of clove and pepper. It goes excellently with mediterranean-style dishes and rich beef sauces.
  Hedin Vineyard RRV Cabernet Sauvignon
This Cab tantalizes the senses with cinnamon and plummy aromas and flavors of dark brambly blackberry fruit laced with subtle anise and truffles, finishes long and soft, with velvety tannins.
  Karah's Hillside Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
These small clusters were close to the trunk and were very well nourished. The tiny, yet luscious, maroon colored berries were intensely juicy with an almost caramelized boysenberry taste. The grapes were handled carefully and approximately 30% were left whole. Partial whole berry fermentation helped enhance the varietal fruit character and allowed for some carbonic maceration. The fermentation was kept cool and extended maceration for 26 days; this protects the finer qualities of the fruit, like the herbs and spices. This Pinot Noir spent 12 months aging in French Oak before it was bottled. This is a real Pinot Noir with flavors of Ruby Red Grapefruit, black cherries and lots of allspice. This wine has been dubbed as the most Burgundy-style Pinot Noir outside of France by many a "Pinot People."
  La Rochelle Vineyard RRV Sauvignon Blanc
We want to recognize the grower, Andre La Rochelle, for his enduring patience and hard work in developing this exceptional 5-acre vineyard located off of Piner Road in the Russian River Valey. Flavors of ripe gooseberries, mixed summer melon, and a hint of dried herbs maintain true varietal character. This vintage finishes crisp and clean with nuances of fresh marzipan tart.

A zany blend of Cab, Zin and Syrah.
  Mistral 50/50 Chenin Blanc & Chardonnay
A field blend of 45 year-old vines. Aged for 6 months in Hungarian Oak, this wine has all the roundness of a good Chardonnay, but the Chenin spices it up a bit with flavors of Indian chutney, mangos, and papaya. Try this wine with dijon chicken breast, seared ahi, sushi, and Asian specialities.
  Pena Creek Old Vine ZINFANDEL
Dry Creek Valley is a great appellation for this varietal, as demonstrated with this handcrafted wine. This classic Zin exhibits black cherry fruit character laced with pepper, finishing long with a clean aftertaste.
  Piner Ranch RRV Pinot Noir
Santa Rosa's Piner Ranch Vineyard was planted 30 years ago and in that time it's offspring has produced many Gold Medal winning wines. The grapes were carefully hand picked in the cool evening hours and approximately only 65% were crushed, allowing for partial whole berry fermentation, which enhances the varietal fruit character. The fermentation was kept cool and extended maceration for 23 days; the wine spent a further 11 months aging in French Oak. Our winemarker, Frane Franicevic, showcases his expertise and unique winemaking philosophy with this release. This is a classic Russian River Pinot Noir, with strawberry aromas and rich cherry flavors and nuances of licorice and cigarbox. Finishes long and gently.
  Piner Ranch RRV Pinot Noir - Winemaker's Reserve
A cutting edge, classic California-style Pinot Noir with forward raspberry fruit flavors backed with licorice and anise with a long velvety finish. Excellent with grilled or poached salmon, lamb kebobs, beef stew, or most mediterranean dishes.
  Pleasant Glen Vineyard North Coast Petite Sirah
An inky wine of unyielding black cherries, deep bark plum; richly textured with clove, allspice, and a long peppercorn-laced finish.
  Rodella Vineyard RRV Pinot Noir
The 45 year-old, dry-farmed Rodella Vineyard is planted in the hallowed Russian River dry creek bed alongside Westside Road. A third of the clusters were left whole in this classic cold soaked Pinot Noir for an extended 26-day maceration. Had punched in small lots twice daily, this wine was handed with extreme care. An artisan Pinot in every respect, Rodella Vineyard expressed as complex floral nose, rich toasted cherry fruit, and a silky finish. Excellent with grilled or poached salmon, lamb kebobs, veal or chicken picatta, or most mediterranean dishes.
  Rodella Vineyard RRV Pinot Noir
We would like to recognize the Rodellas for their enduring patience and expertise in developing this 45 year-old dry farmed vineyard on West Side Road in the Russian River Valley. This is a Burgundy-style Pinot Noir with flavors of ruby red grapefruit and cherry cola and notes of fennel and allspice. It is excellent with wild salmon, lamb kebobs, veal or chicken picatta, or most mediterranean dishes.
  RRV Syrah Port
This started out as a late harvest Syrah that we decided to take a step further and fortified it with double-distilled Chardonnay Brandy from Jepson Vineyards. A big, full taste of blueberries with subtle black pepper traces and a creamy nut finish. A Great way to enjoy a Syrah! Excellent with flourless chocolate torte or a hot tub.
  Sonoma County Meritage - Winemaker Reserve
This Winemaker Reserve blend is comprised of approximately 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 24% Merlot. A low yield of 2-3 tons per acre produced very small berries and intense fruit. Each block contributes its unique qualities; the Cabernet Sauvignon asserts itself with ripe blackberries and cocoa bean essence, the Cabernet Franc brings in a medley of peppers, and the Merlot delivers anise and mint flavors. This Meritage was aged for twenty-three months in French Oak and can be enjoyed now or for decades to come.
  St. Olof's Vineyard Clear Lake Barbera
The hard work and patience that winegrowers Eric and Cynthia Olof bring to their vineyard is fully expressed in this 100% Barbera. A vibrantly spiced wine that begs for a good meal with good friends. Opulent cherry and plum fruit surrounded by a velvety mouthfeel layered by hits of dark deep berry, cinamon spice, and vanilla.

New release. This potent, inky wine shows balanced black cherry fruit from start to finish.
  St. Olof's Vineyard Zemja's Blend, 50/50 Barbera & Nebbiolo
A classic Italian-style Barolo blend of 50% Nebbiolo, 50% Barbera. The Barbera and Nebbiolo were co-pressed and aged together in French oak for 12 months. This is one of Frane's best blends ever, with two-thirds of our inventory sold out already! This wine commemorates the birth of Vintners Frane and Janae Franicevic's third daughter, Zemja. A celebration of family and of all things wondrous in life; this blend's vibrant expression of cherry fruit, spice aromatics, and long, dry, smoky finish recalls the long days of the Mediterranean summer.
  Strycker Vineyard Clear Lake Meritage
This Winemaker reserve bland is comrised of approximately 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 21% Cabernet Franc. Only the best rows of each varietal block are chosen to achieve the perfect balance of fruit, spice, and deep toasted tannin. Cabernet Sauvignon asserts itself with ripe, cocoa-laced blackberries, Merlot selivers rich texture, and Cabernet Franc brings forward a medly of spiced dried fruits, and leathery earth.
  Strycker Vineyard Clear Lake Suck-Your-Teeth Cabernet Sauvignon
A 30-day fermentation produced intensely extracted fruit with noted tannins. A full-bodied, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with cherry, blackberry, earthy cocoa, and Walt Strycker Vineyard's famous suck-your-teeth varietal character.
  Strycker's Vineyard Clear Lake Meritage
This Classic Bordeaux field blend is comprised of approximately 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 27% Merlot. These three varietals are grown together in the same vineyard. Each block contributes its unique qualities; the Cabernet Sauvignon asserts itself with ripe blackberries and firm tannins. The Merlot delivers a supple and rich texture and the Cabernet Franc brings in a medley of spiced dried fruit characteristics.
  Strycker's Vineyard Clear Lake Suck-Your-Teeth Cabernet Sauvignon
A 34 day fermentation produced intense, extracted blackberry fruit with firm tannins. This is full flanked, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a blackberry, grapey, suck-your-teeth varietal quality. A Cab for Cab Lovers. An excellent accompaniment to beef wellington, fillet mignon, pepper steak, lamb stew, and any heavy meat-sauce dishes.
  Stryker's Vineyard Clear Lake Suck-Your-Teeth Cabernet Sauvignon
A 32 day fermentation produced intense, extracted fruit with noticeable tannins. This is full flanked, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with a blackberry, grapey, suck-your-teeth varietal quality. An excellent accompaniment to beef wellington, filet mignon, pepper steak, lamb stew, and any heavy meat-sauce dishes.
