Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Hermann J. Wiemer, a pioneer in the successful growth of vinifera (European)grapes in the Finger Lakes, has built his winery, vineyard and nursery on his fierce dedication to the exclusive production of these varieties since 1969. The Wiemer wines quickly gained recognition and now enjoy both a national and world-wide reputation as among the finest made. The winery is located on Route 14, fifteen mintues from Watkins Glen. Tastings are given daily in the retail shop located within the winery itself, enabling visitors to see the wine actually in production. This wine possesses all the wonderful characteristics of a great vintage - well balanced, aromatic with a soft and lingering finish.
  Cabernet Franc Reserve
This 2005 Reserve is elegant and complex with black currant, raspberry, and cranberry characteristics. This great vintage has a velvety and lingering finish.
  Chardonnay
Made in the restrained French Style, the Chardonnay is barrel fermented in French oak. The nose and taste reveal a dry, full-bodied, complex wine showing classic Chardonnay fruit subtly enhanced with oak. It is well balanced, smooth and dry with a nice long finish
  Dry Johannisberg Riesling
A crisp dry Johannisberg Riesling in the classic German Mosel Kabinett style. The nose is light and delicate with hints of fresh fruit.   Dry Johannisberg Riesling Reserve
A worthy successor to the 2002 Reserve Dry Riesling that won the coveted NY State Governor's Cup, this wine has good structure and great acid/sugar balance. The hints of apples, pears and minerals in the nose are also found in the taste, in classic Kabinett style. A fresh, lively wine with a pleasant lingering finish on the palate.

  Estate Red
A bright and lively blend of Cabernet Franc and Lemberger (a classic German variety). Its vibrant flavors instantly impact the tongue with black current and plum, and hints of leather and tobacco. An energetic, well-structured wine with good tannins. Enjoy on a daily basis. Appropriate foods: Particularly good with red meats, and all robust ethnic foods - e.g., Italian, Mexican, Polish.
  Estate White
This 100% vinifera blending of Rieslings, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris has resulted in a perfect balance of the best characteristics from each of the wines. Riesling fruits, with a delicate touch of oak in the nose, are enhanced by an overlay of full-bodied complexity from the Chardonnay and finished with a crisp, smooth dryness from the Pinot Gris. A very good all-round, flexible drinking wine. Appropriate foods: Serve with hors d’oeuvres, fish and meats of all kinds, spicy foods and cheeses with distinctive flavors
  Gewürztraminer
This medium dry, distinctive wine has a beautiful nose, full of peaches, apples and melons, and perfumed with rose petals. Appropriate foods: Goes well with spicy foods (e.g. curries, Mexican, Thai, Italian) and dishes with rich sauces. Also excellent with fruit tarts and similar desserts.
  Gewürztraminer Reserve
A medium dry wine, it is listed as a Reserve because of its lovely intensity in the nose and taste, full of apricots, peaches with violets and rose petals in the true Alsace style.
