Lockwood Vineyard

Lockwood Vineyard One of the great truisms is that world-class wines are only attainable from great vineyard locations and uncompromised excellence in winemaking. Given this ideal, Lockwood Vineyard was born in 1989 with the intent of producing premium and ultra-premium wines from a single, contiguous 1,850 acre vineyard located in the southern extremities of Monterey County. The partners of Lockwood are dedicated to the concept of estate bottled wines, a legal definition that requires 100 percent of the wine to be grown, produced and bottled from vines exclusively tended and vinified on-site. The large estate was planted in 1981 under the direction of founding partners Paul Toeppen, Phil Johnson and Butch Lindley, who have cumulative vineyard management experience of over 90 years. The parcel was carefully chosen, having an excellent climate, soil structure and water source for premium grapes. The vineyard is one of the largest premium estate vineyards in the world, selling fruit to a handful of California’s most elite wineries.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful expression of our southern Monterey county vineyard. The aromatics are fresh and resemble a medley of black cherry and boysenberry. On the palate spice tones of leaf tobacco and ripe plum carry the mouth feel. On the finish a freshness of varietal Cabernet fruit shows off a sublime toastiness. This is a vintage for true Cabernet Sauvignon fans. This wine can be enjoyed with a thick grilled steak. Salud.
  Chardonnay
The 2006 Chardonnay has aromas of citrus blossom. On the palate, the wine shows flavors of tropical fruit with a mineral background that is a terrior expression of our shaly laom soil type. The wine is elegant, fresh and radiant with a varietal character. This Chardonnay would complement a lightly grilled salmon or a roasted poultry dish.
  Malbec
Malbec is a variety that shows intense purple color and strong aromatics that smell of violets and fragrant rose pedals. The mid-palate is full and the tannins are firm and long. The color is a beautiful hue of purple and blue. This wine will fill your senses with lovely aromas and will comfort the palate with richness and layers of generous fruit. A long finish with firm tannin and a lingering of blueberry fruit will show you the quality of our inaugural vintage of this Lockwood Vineyard Malbec.
  Merlot
The wine starts in the palate with an aromatic fruit bouquet, that has the characteristic spice of Merlot fruit. Soft in the middle palate, the silky tannins and delicate balance of acidity and oak make this wine a treat. The flavors of blueberry with the fragrance of rose petals balance this elegant Merlot. To pair this wine seek lighter sauces. Baked chicken with rosemary, or an herbed pork loin with wild rice. This wine will show gracefully with all of your lighter creations. Enjoy.
  Partners Reserve

  Pinot Block 7
In the glass of wine has a powerful bouquet of dried cherries and plum spice. On the palate the flavors begin with a rose petal character that follows with wild strawberry and clove tones. The balance of earthiness from the smell of a redwood grove to the elegance of delicate spice best describe the mouth feel. This Pinot Noir would complement a hearty pasta dish or a garlic spiced rack of lamb.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Melon rind and fresh citrus flavors are carried by aromas of ruby grapefruit and green pear. This vivid wine can be enjoyed any time of day, especially with fresh oysters on the half shell or a crab salad.
  Syrah
What 14 months of barrel ageing helped do was soften the coarse tannins bringing the fresh fruit forward. The firm tannins are complexed with long lush fruitiness making a wine of substantial size. Aromas of raspberry and violet bounce around the palate until the depth of mouth feel brings flavors to finish. This wine is elegant, yet brave and is sure to bring daring foods to pair with the flavors of Syrah. Enjoy.
