Byrd Cellars

Byrd Cellars Our wines are crafted beginning in our vineyards. We grow several varieties of American, European, and hybrid grapes with careful attention to the soils and climate unique to the James River/Piedmont environment. Using environmentally friendly farming practices, we nurture our grapes every season, harvesting in the fall and producing wines distinctly labeled Virginia.

Products

  Apple
A blend of Virginia grown apples, developed to a full strength wine for longevity,
  Leanora's Meadowsweet
Images of country wildflowers, like the meadowsweet, come to mind.
  Merlot
Looking for a great medium body wine that is very approachable? Well this is it. Aged in year old French oak.
  Muscat
Late harvest, this wine retains a unique golden color and a heady floral aroma.
  Norton
Grape character is what this wine is all about. It is aged in stainless steel.
  Norton Reserve
A true American style, this wine has been aged with New American oak and is 100% Norton.
  Petit Verdot
Virginia’s new pop trendy red grape wine. Unique — this varietal usually is a “blend-in” for Bordeaux wines to adjust color and then only in small percentages. In Virginia however, our winemakers are bringing this grape to the forefront and bringing it on boldly. At least 14 wineries make Petit Verdot in the Dominion. We are doing our part. Try this wine, you will be enamoured.
  Raven Red
A unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Norton grapes.
  Syrah
If ever there was a great Syrah then this is it. Smokey, flavorful, long on the pallete and yet smooth thru the finish. Although a bordeaux in heritage, this is a dry red that Auzzies like calling Shiraz!

Ilove the wines but you have to judge for yourself because I'm the winemaker :)

Robert Filler says...
I have been to many Virginia wineries and Byrd Cellars is producing some of the best reds in VA. Their 2008 Norton, 2009 Merlot and 2009 Syrah are incredible. Visit this winery you will not be disappointed.
