Burnley Vineyards

Burnley Vineyards Burnley Vineyards is one of the oldest vineyards in the Monticello Viticultural area. We have 30 acres of vineyards- Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Orange Muscat, Muscat Blanc, Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc and Norton. Burnley Vineyards is a family operation. C.J. Reeder is General Manager, Lee Reeder is the Winemaker, Patt Reeder is in charge of Sales, Dawn Reeder handles tasting and tours. Hours: January through March, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 11 am to 5 pm, April through December, Every Day, 11 am to 5 pm

From Northern Va: Go south on 29 to Ruckersville. Turn left onto 33. Go 7 miles to Barboursville. Turn right onto 20. Go 2 miles and turn right onto 641. Go 1/3 mile turn left into entrance. From Richmond: Take exit 136. Turn right onto 15 north. Go about 10 miles to Gordonsville. Get on route 33 west. Go about 7 miles to Barboursville. Turn left onto 20 south. Go about 2 miles. Turn right onto 641. Go 1/3 mile turn left into entrance.

  Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
A dry white wine yet with Chardonnay fruit flavors. The Chardonnay was fermented in oak barrels then stored in oak barrels for 4 months. The barrels were stirred every two weeks. Thus the wine has round buttery flavors. This makes the wine a preference with stronger flavored dishes.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
An elegant dry red wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This wine is unfiltered. This makes the wine heavier but with more flavors and body. This wine ages very well and can be enjoyed now.
  Chardonnay
A dry white wine yet with Chardonnay fruit flavors. The Chardonnay was fermented in stainless steel tanks then aged in medium oak barrels for 5 months. This wine is crisp and with medium oak flavors. Burnley's Chardonnay is an excellent choice with heavy cream sauce dishes.
  Moon Mist
This is a sweet wine made with Muscat Blanc and Orange Muscat. The wine is fermented dry and Muscat grape juice is added back to enhance the fruit flavors and add natural sweetness to the wine. Best served well chilled. Goes well with a sweet but tart dessert. 6% residual sugar.
  Norton
This red grape was developed in Richmond, VA. around 1820. It was commercially available in 1830. It was the main grape in early Virginia wines. This wine is full bodied, very rich and fruity. Its best served with meat or spicy dishes.
  Peach Fuzz
This is a masterful blend of grape juice and peach juice. The blended juices are cold fermented, cold filtered, and cold bottled. The result is a light, refreshing and aromatic summer picnic wine. Best served well chilled. 6% residual sugar.
  Riesling
A medium dry wine with tropical fruit flavors. This wine is made in a Germanic style.We ferment the wine as cold as possible and after fermentation we add back unfermented Riesling grape jucie to enhance the fruit flavors and add natural sweetness to the wine. 2% Residual Sugar.
  Rivanna Red
This is a blended wine of three different grape varieties (Chambourcin, Norton and Cabernet Sauvignon). The wine is a Beaujolais style. It is dry but very fruity and best served with meat, spicy chicken or pasta.
  Rivanna Sunset
The wine is made from Chambourcin grapes and is made in a BLUSH style wine. BLUSH is a red grape processed as a white wine - no skin contact. Thus, we have a pink tint to the wine. This wine is best when served with chicken or turkey. 4% Residual Sugar.
  Rivanna White
A medium dry wine made with Vidal Blanc grapes crafted in a Germanic style. The wine is a light wine with light fruit flavors. We ferment the wine as cold as possible to retain all the fruit favors. After fermentation, unfermented Vidal Blanc juice is added back to enhance the fruit flavors and add natural sweetness to the wine. 1% Residual Sugar.
  Somerset
A sweet wine made with Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Riesling, Norton, Chambourcin and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Norton, Chambourcin and Cabernet Sauvignon give the wine its color. This wine is fermented and unfermented Vidal Blanc juice is added back. The flavors remind us of mixed fruit and honey.
  Spicy Rivanna
This is our Rivanna Red to which we have added cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, anise, orange peel, lemon peel and residual sugar. This wine is best served either well chilled or steaming hot like tea.
  Zinfandel
A robust dry wine made from 100% Zinfandel grapes. This wine is very spicy with lots of plum and berry flavors. A very nice all around wine. This wine is young but will age for at least five years.

Norton Wine Review: Enjoyable informal setting, but the offered Norton wine is currently not keeping pace with what Virginia has been able to do with Norton grapes in other local settings. Burnley's Norton wine tends to bark rather than quietly talk to you.
