Chateux Aux Arc

Chateux Aux Arc Named for the original French spelling of "Ozark," Chateau Aux Arc planted its roots in 1998 when Audrey House bought ten acres of vineyard in Altus, Arkansas. Although she's likely one of the world's youngest winemakers, Audrey has nevertheless spent years on exhaustive research and travel across California wine country. A winemaker since the ripe old age of 13, she fashioned her first batch from water, sugar, baker's yeast and Welch's grape juice concentrate. After graduating from college, Audrey knew she was ready to make some great wine, so she bought the land and spent her weekends camped out for six months in a tent in her fields while she worked to bring her dreams to fruition. In spring of 2001 Chateau Aux Arc opened its winery selling vintages bottled in 1999 and 2000. Three thousand gallons of wine were produced in 2001 and now with almost 40 acres of plantable vineyard, an eightfold increase in production is planned over the next five years. Chateau Aux Arc is known for its 10+ acres of chardonnay grapes, as well as 5 acres of Cynthiana (with more on the way). These plus Kerner, Muller Thurgau, Schreube, Oraniensteiner, Vignoles, Cabernet, Primitivo, Zinfandel, Vidal and more populate the vineyard.

Total time in oak was 10 months, during which time all barrels were stirred and topped off every two weeks. The blend was assembled, lightly fined and then bottled. This is truly a magnificent Chardonnay with aromas that follow through to the mouthfilling palate of fine, rich citrus and tropical fruits that are beautifully entwined with the quality oak. The lengthy finish is stunningly rich, with penetrating layers of grapefruit and soft spicy mineral tones. Gorgeous. This wine is ready for drinking now! Bronze Medal 2002 Arkansas State Fair.
  Reserve Merlot
From our now wildly successful 2001 vintage, our winemaker used a barrel-by-barrel selection of our entire Merlot vintage in order to choose the richest, most complex lot which can dare to be called Reserve. The Reserve was then aged for an additional year in French, Hungarian and American oak so as to balance the wine’s powerful fruit with a more refined oak compliment. This sumptuous and velvety, full-bodied red is full of aromas of plum and blackberry with lingering toasted oak undertones. The finish is layered with cherries, orange blossoms and raspberry jam while keeping the tannins exceptionally balanced as not to overpower. Double Gold at the 2003 Wines of the South Competition.
