Red Car Wine

Red Car Wine Sonoma Coast! The words evoke a pastoral ideal, an escape from the urban rush, a place for food and friendship, a postcard panorama of exquisite beauty. The Sonoma Coast is all of those things, to be sure, but at heart it remains a farming community as it has been for hundreds of years. Local artisan farmers grow vegetables, livestock, fruit, flowers and honey. Local artisan producers make cheese, charcuterie, cider, olive oil and bread. Wine grapes are only the latest in a string of successful local crops, which over the years has included potatoes, hops, prunes and apples. Despite this rural history, Sonoma’s proximity to San Francisco has ensured a cultured and cosmopolitan populace that is, by all accounts, obsessed with food and wine. Extraordinary restaurants dot the landscape. Family wineries work the land at every turn. For people like us, in short, it is paradise. From a viticultural perspective, the Sonoma Coast is ideal primarily because of its climate, which is the single most influential factor determining the potential quality of fruit. Usually spring begins around mid-March and continues with generally pleasant weather into May. This allows for a healthy and timely bud break. Rain between mid-May and mid-October is rare. Temperatures very rarely hit triple digits in a year. This long, dry, cool season is ideal because it allows grapes to ripen slowly. Slow ripening extends hang times, which in turn intensifies flavors without spiking sugars or dropping acids, both of which can occur with excessive heat. Red Car’s long and exciting migration north started in 2004 when we purchased land atop a coastal mountain range on the “True” Sonoma Coast. The 2009 vintage is our first full harvest from our new Estate vineyard. In the coming years, it will provide more and more of our grapes and will help us produce elegant wines with exceptional balance.

  Boxcar Pinot Noir
Stand-out purity and cleanness are initial remarkable qualities of this joyous juice. Aromatics like ylang-ylang, orange blossoms, and cedar shavings give it a heady lift. The mouth-feel is silky soft, the body full of grace and harmony. Savory with applewood bacon, pomegranate, and hibiscus tea notes, this Russian River Valley pinot is sure to make your senses swoon.
  Boxcar Syrah
Deeply concentrated yet beautifully weightless. Rainier cherries, purple pears, and Earl Grey tea with Bergamot unfold on the palate with intriguing complexity. Slight undertones of caramel and wild sage enliven the nose while rich dark fruits give the body curves. Garnet colored with a lavender halo, this Sonoma Coast syrah is a high-polished jewel.
  Speakeasy Syrah
Speakeasy is dominated by cooler climate flavors because over 70% of its grapes hail from true cool climate regions. The lush tastes of wild Maine blueberries, Ranier cherries, licorice and Kona coffee are balanced and refined. The percentage of new oak has been lowered, too, allowing the mouthfeel to be linear yet silky. Scents of crushed peppercorn, fresh grass, and clove come off the nose with a hint of orange rind.
  The Fight Syrah
This wine is packed with lush mouthfuls of concentrated blue fruits. Blueberry preserves, blackberry pie, creosote, and iodine create a brawny yet balanced California Syrah. Layers of smoke and roux spark nostalgic memories of a home-cooked meal. Hints of clove are faint but effective.
  Trolley Pinot Noir
The 2007 Trolley Pinot Noir is a focused and pure Sonoma Coast gem. Rich yet balanced, it layers the mouth with savory black cherry cobbler, sassafras and forest morels. The aroma offers heady notes of wild sage and dew covered California cedar. Authenticity in a bottle.
