Elk Creek Vineyards

Elk Creek Vineyards Nestled among the rolling hills of Kentucky, we established Elk Creek Vineyards in 2003, believing that the only way to make great wines is to intimately know what grows best on Kentucky soil, hand-select the finest grapes at harvest and limit production. Our winery is a spectacular place for tastings, winemaking tours, and special events. Enjoy a glass of wine and savor items from our cafe. Relax next to our three-story stone hearth and enjoy true Southern hospitality.

  Sweet Owen Red
This unique Kentucky Proud wine takes advantage of the remarkable qualities of the Norton grape to produce a delicious, spicy, zinfandel-like wine. It has a well oaked robust character and a slightly sweet dark candied fruit flavor that makes it a great wine for those learning to enjoy red wine and aficionados alike. It's bold and spicy character stands up well to strong cheeses and steak but it's unpretentious character makes it a great accompaniment to a juicy hamburger at your next tailgate party.

Norton Wine Review: Our last winery visit of the day was late in the evening at the beautiful park-like setting of Elk Creek Vineyards and Winery. Their Norton wine was ill named as “Sweet Owen Red”. But after tasting, we liked and agreed with Kim, our hostess, who stated “I can enjoy this wine in front of a fire or in the sun.” Not only did we enjoy our enthusiastic hostess, but we also enjoyed their vineyard grown, light colored, yet full bodied Estate Chambourcin along with a Cabernet Franc worthy of multiple purchases. The $$ Cab Franc was short oaked first in American oak followed by French oak for eleven months before being placed in stainless tanks. It took us over 90 minutes of tasting fun and an additional purchase of their burgundy-like Chardonel to get away from this site.
