Zanatta Winery

Zanatta Winery Located on Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Valley, our winery is part of a 120 acre farm. With 30 acres in vines, the remainder of the farm is in pasture, hay fields, forest and old fruit orchards. Using only the fruit from our own Glenora vineyards we are able to produce wines that truly reflect the character of Vancouver Island and of our particular site. Producing since 1990, our original 5 acres (planted in 1986) has grown to 30 acres and includes Ortega, Cayuga, Auxerrois, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero and Madeleine X Sylvaner as our main varieties. There are at least 30 different varieties on site for experimental purposes or for limited specialty wines (varieties such as Castel, Leon Millot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Seigerrebe).

  Allegria Brut Rosé
This Champagne method sparkling wine has been aged on the lees for a minimum of 24 months. A dark cherry hued cuveé of Pinot Noir and Auxerrois with a very rich, fruity body and gentle aromas of kiwi and raspberry.
  Damasco
A subtle blend of four varieties and a unique vinification gives Damasco its fruity bouquet and rich 'mouthfeel' with a slight effervescence. Light and fresh, it makes a perfect appetizer or sipping wine, but is also very suited to Asian or light west coast foods.
  Fatima Brut '94
This sparkling wine is made in the traditional method of Champagne using Pinot Grigio and Cayuga grapes. with an extended aging period, Fatima is a rich in toasty notes and has an excellent integration of carbon dioxide (a profusion of small persistent bubbles).
  Glenora Fantasia Brut
Made in the traditional method, this sparkling wine has been aged on the lees for a minimum of 3 years. We use 100% Cayuga grapes, gently pressed immediately upon harvest to produce this very unique sparkling wine. The result is a bouquet of green apples carried through in the small persistent bubbles.
  Ortega
Ortega is the first wine variety we released upon opening in 1992. Producing since 1989, this cross of Seigerrebe and Muller Thurgau produces a fruity full-bodied white wine. A dry white wine, with a hint of Muscat makes it a good pairing with spicy Asian or Indian cuisine.
  Pinot Grigio
The growing of our Pinots is very intensive thus expressing their complexities and our regional characteristics. Pinot Grigio is a complex, full body, dry white wine. This unique wine pairs well with many dishes, especially rich white meats and seafood.
  Pinot Nero
Our Pinot Nero is grown on our steepest gravel slopes, producing complex fruit and spice flavours. Aged in a combination of old and new French barrels to produce subtle oak flavours with highlights of vanilla and tobacco with an integration of black pepper and raspberry notes.
  Taglio Rosso (brut)
This very deep red sparkler is done in the the traditional method of champagne. Using Cabernet Sauvignon and Castel grapes, Taglio Rosso is aged on the lees for 12 months to maintain it's youthful fruitiness. Very limited production
