Hook & Ladder Vineyards & Winery

Hook & Ladder Vineyards & Winery In 1969, Cecil and Christine De Loach staked their claim in the wine grape business by purchasing 24 acres of old vine Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. In the early 1970's, the De Loach's decided to acquire additional vineyard land. For several years they watched others make notable wine from their grapes before making the decision to produce wine under the De Loach label in 1975. More than three decades later, Cecil and Christine sold that label and have continued their winemaking skills at the helm of a small family winery that employs a simple philosophy - craft exceptional wines, from the highest quality grapes, that people love to drink. We consider each step of the winemaking process an opportunity to showcase the distinctive flavors contained within our carefully cultivated grapes. Every bottle of wine is a worthy representation of the best effort from each and every person at Hook and Ladder Vineyards and Winery.

Hook & Ladder "The Tillerman" Cabernet Blend Russian River Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese are given the royal treatment in this Russian River Valley red blend. We got what we wanted: an enthusiastic burst of ripe fruits, a seductive combination of luring aromas that only start with berry, cassis, spice and leather, and a wine whose texture is smooth, juicy and long.
Hook & Ladder Cabernet Sauvignon Russian River Valley
Made with grapes grown on the Los Amigos Ranch in the warmer eastern confines of the Russian River Valley’s “Chalk Hill” sub appellation. Black cherry, cardamom spice, vanilla and leather are the aromatic attractions. But it’s the black cherry, cranberry and cocoa that stars in this smooth, moderately tannic, balanced Cabernet.
Hook & Ladder Chardonnay "Third Alarm" Reserve Russian River Valley Estate Bottled
In choosing the lots to blend together for Third Alarm Chardonnay, we sought out complexity combined with intensity. We got it. Beginning with a light straw color, the wine shows off a distinctly tropical and creamy nose with notes of caramel and citrus, framed by melon and pineapple aromas. On the palate we enjoy the streak of crispness that runs across the palate carrying with it rich, long flavors of deep pear, ripe figs, notes of allspice and summer peach, all harmoniously melded together.
Hook & Ladder Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Wondering how Russian River Valley Chardonnay became so famous? Pop the cork on this beauty and get an education. The combination of ripe gravenstein apple and pineapple in the aroma screams “Russian River Valley.” The vanilla and nutmeg just rounds it out. The juicy apple returns in the flavors paired with hints of spicy oak, citrus and caramel.
Hook & Ladder Gewurztraminer Russian River Valley
Rarely in stock, this early harvest Gewurztraminer sells out almost as fast as it is produced. It is dry on the palate with spicy hints of pear, apricot and tropical notes.
Hook & Ladder Russian River Valley Estate Bottled Pinot Noir
The grapes provided us with a wine which is at once extraordinarily complex in its flavors and aromas while also fi lled with black and blue fruit flavors and aromas: Black Cherry, Blackberry and blueberry. The aroma is seared with barrel spices, cinnamon and a mellow smoky components. It is classic Pinot Noir in structure with a smooth entry yet mouthfilling. This is classic Russian River Pinot Noir produced by one of the region’s pioneering Pinot winemakers.
Hook & Ladder Russian River Valley, Estate Grown Rosé
A pleasing, nearly-dry blend of old-vine 1909 Gambogi Ranch Zinfandel, Saitone Ranch Carignane planted in 1895, and a splash of rare old-vine Palomino, this fine Rosé exhibits alluring scents of green apple, grapefruit and tangerine followed by a refreshing mouthful of peach, pear and strawberry. Great for cool sipping, or with lighter dishes like veal, fish and chicken.
Hook & Ladder Tillerman White Wine Blend
The Tillerman White is a blend of light grapes cold fermented in 100% stainless steel creating a crisp, dry wine perfect for warm days around the pool or cool evenings with chicken on the BBQ. A summer must have!
Hook & Ladder White Zinfandel Russian River Valley Estate Grown
With just enough sweetness to tickle the buds and a crisp, soothing character that is the very meaning of “summer quaffing”. Fresh strawberry and ambrosia open the door on this Russian River White Zin. The invitation leads to a melange of light and fresh strawberry, lemon-lime, melon and raspberries. Store the wine in a cooler right next to the barbecue.
Hook & Ladder Zinfandel Russian River Valley Estate Grown
Cecil De Loach has been defining Russian River Zinfandel for 35 years. This entry into his famous ledger emphasizes balance and elegance wrapped around a core of raspberry jam and spice. The hints of cocoa and black pepper round out the aromas. But the prize is unlocked on the palate with the raspberry combining with blackberry, chocolate, cola and oak spice all delivered in an elegant, smooth package.
