Spring Mountain Vineyard

Spring Mountain Vineyard The new Spring Mountain Vineyard was once three separate properties each with its own vineyard and winery: Spring Mountain Vineyards (Miravalle) 257 acres, Chateau Chevalier (Chevalier) 120 acres, and Draper Vineyards (La Perla) 435 acres. The upper most property on the estate, La Perla, was founded in 1873 by Charles Lemme and expanded by the Schilling Spice family. Originally 285 acres it had the first Cabernet Sauvignon planted on Spring Mountain. The old winery remains today along with much of its original equipment and horse drawn carriages and wagons. Immediately below La Perla, and eventually added to it was the first vineyard planted by Fredrick and Jacob Beringer in 1882. These terraced hillsides were planted in a wide assortment of grape varieties to support the Beringer brothers’ fledgling winery. Adjoining to the north of the Beringer vineyard was a Frenchman, Fortune Chevalier, whose stone winery, Chateau Chevalier, was making wine in 1891. And finally, next door to Chevalier was Tiburcio Parrott who grew olives, citrus and grapes. Parrott built a grand home on the estate which he named Miravalle.

  Elivette
The 2003 vintage of Elivette has a layered, complex structure built predominantly on Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is laden with aromas of baking spices, cocoa, sweet vanilla, licorice, black cherry and berry fruit, with subtle floral notes of stone fruit blossom. On the palate, the wine has a solid, polished attack, with pretty berry fruit and elements of pepper and licorice. The tannins are supportive, but soft and malleable. The wine’s bright acidity adds to the lively and elongated finish.
  Elivette
Our 2002 vintage Elivette is a deeply hued blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The aromas are a heady complexion of raspberries, blackberry jam and dark chocolate with nuances of kola and dark spices. Over 22 months of aging in French oak has softened the tannins and shaped the wine into a lush and textural delight. Loaded with a concentration of jammy fruit and hints of black licorice, it is an opulent expression of our Bordeaux varieties as they come to full ripeness on the slopes of Spring Mountain. The full bodied and redolent nature of this wine begs to be enjoyed immediately, but its shape and structure describe a wine that won’t reach its peak for another 10 years.
  Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
A pure expression of mountain fruit, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is fragrant with bright red fruit aromas, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, sweet black tea and floral notes. Full bodied and effusively flavorful, the wine has a soft, velvety approach and delivers loads of cherry-berry fruit well integrated with satiny tannins, lively acidity and a long, echoing finish. Decant to release the abundant flavors and aromas of this youthful and vibrant cabernet.
  Pinot Noir
A delightful combination of bright raspberry-cherry fruit intermingled with aromas of ginger, cola and violets. The body is full with tannins that are plush and chewy, but still well structured and youthful, giving the wine vibrancy and life. Our 2003 Pinot Noir is a gorgeous expression of both the variety and the spring mountain terroir; pure, supple, sweet and lush.
  Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Utilizing four of the five classic Bordeaux varietals, this Meritage is youthful in appearance with an almost opaque dark ruby color and aromas red fruit, chocolate and white flowers. The berry fruit flavors continue to dominate the palate in this full-bodied, concentrated, rich, layered wine. Firm yet integrated tannins give it a youthful flair, but supple and rich with an extremely long finish to create the ultimate finale. 92 Points (WS).
  Sauvignon Blanc
The 2006 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is effusive in its expression of the site specific soils and climate of the Spring Mountain Vineyard. A floral perfume enhanced by white peach, nectarine, Asian pear and Meyer lemon and a subtle herbal quality offer a mouth-watering invitation to the wine. Rich and elegant on the palate, the abundant layers of fruit, linden and mineral mirror its aromatics. A crisp acidity balances a lush mouth-feel, making its lingering impression one of completeness.
  Sauvignon Blanc
The 2004 vintage stands out as memorable, with fruit that bears the imprint of an early spring, and a slow and steady ripening period that ended several weeks ahead of traditional harvest timelines. Warm, consistent summer weather was bracketed by an early spring bud break and several late summer hot spells, creating growing conditions that allowed for one of the earliest harvest periods in almost a decade, and an unusual opportunity for making outstanding wine.
  Syrah
With warm, south-eastern facing slopes, this small five acre vineyard block of Syrah has once again captured the unique Spring Mountain terroir. Spices, black licorice and pepper are braided with floral overtones of white flowers and lush roses. The palate is complex with flavors of roasted meats, blackberry jam, layers of chocolate and toast. Its full-bodied structure is soft and supple, making this chewy Syrah a delight to drink now or to cellar for the next five to eight years. 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast.
  Syrah CO-FERMENT
The 2004 Syrah CO-FERMENT is a wine that shows the strength and spicy individuality of Syrah and the adorning floral nuances of Viognier. With a swirl and a sip you discover the delightful aromatics of white flower petals overlaying a basket full of vibrant red berries, spiced with white and black pepper and a touch of clove. This enchanting and rare combination intrigues the palate as the nose picks up the floral aromas and the mouth enjoys a complete, balanced full-bodied wine. Patience over the next six months, allowing the wine to continue to develop and mature in the bottle will yield tremendous rewards.
